Hello beautiful people,
I’m voting for Joseph “Joey” Ruzevich today for Illinois’ 6th Congressional District. And you should too.
Yeah, I’m posting this on Election Day. Not because I don’t care, but because I’ve been doing everything. Final papers, final projects, finals exams (that’s quarter system for you), and at the same time canvassing, phone banking, text banking every single day. I’ve been showing up however I can. And today I’m saying it on another platform:
Go vote for Joey.
I didn’t always have strong opinions about Sean Casten. When I first moved to the U.S., I wasn’t even a citizen yet, just a permanent resident, and I wasn’t even old enough to vote.
But when I finally could vote, it was at the same time that the genocide in Gaza was unfolding.
And I did what we’re told would make a difference. I called my representative. I emailed. I asked for a ceasefire. I asked for an arms embargo. I asked for the bare minimum from my (D) Representative. Stop funding the killing of children.
And I got silence.
Call after call. Email after email. Ignored.
Our representative was and is choosing not to listen. He can’t listen to his constituents, he’s listening to AIPAC and the likes.
And what makes it worse is this: Illinois’ 6th District has the largest Palestinian constituency in the entire country. Not just Illinois. The entire U.S. And still, those voices and ideas are ignored.
We cannot have a representative who only listens to certain people. We cannot have a representative who takes $1.4 million from AIPAC and other lobbies and then turns around and ignores his own constituents. That is not representation.
That’s exactly why I’m done with Sean Casten.
And that’s why I’m voting for Joey.
I’m not voting for Joey just because he’s “different.” I’m voting for him because he actually has the courage to stand on something. He’s running a people-powered campaign. No corporate PAC money. No selling out. Just real people backing him.
And he’s fighting for things that actually matter:
ending the war machine
stopping AI and data centers from coming in our communities
standing for human rights—including Palestinians
taking on corporations and monopolies
investing in people, not profit
That’s what leadership should look like.
So if you’re in IL-6, I’m asking you, please go vote today. Text your friends. Call your family. Send this to anyone you know in the district.
Because this is how change happens. Not by waiting. Not by hoping. By showing up.
